Just got back from getting the title for my new '76 Z750. Pics are below. Pretty dusty, needs new seat and a carb rebuild, but looks really great otherwise. Picked it up for $400.

Was wondering if someone could give me a good rundown on parts, repair manuals, etc. I'm afraid this is my first old (i.e. not bought new off a floor and serviced by pros) bike, and I'm a little lost in where to start sourcing stuff. A good (clymer?) guide would be great as well.. All said, I'm extremely happy to have a new summer project. Shouldn't take too long.

I was also glad to see a good dedicated web community here. That's worth a ton.

Forget Clymer. Get a Kawasaki Factory Service Manual for your specific year/model. They're nearly always available on eBay, but if you can't find the correct one for your year let us know. Someone on this site will help you find it. Good luck with your new scooter; I love the fact that it appears stock. Ed

Yes, I second 650ed's advice to get a Factory Manual. In my opinion, the Clymer, Haynes, and others are of vey little help, if any.

Just have to third that. I own the kawi factory manuals of the two bike I merged, pretty much invaluable.

There are some scanned versions out there...
Poke around some more and youll probably find links here.

Well I found two (seemingly) different manuals. One at tonesometwin.co.uk , and one on ebay .

The only thing is the one on ebay says 'Motorcycle Shop Manual', and the PDF from Lonesome twin is called a 'Motorcycle Service Manual'. I can't tell if the PDF is specifc to 76.

Other questions that have come up - why is it called a Lonesome Twin, and also, and when looking for parts, is there a model that has similarities so I'm not only looking for 76 kz750 parts? 77 work? ,etc.

The kz750 twins remained virtually unchanged in their 4 year run. They are designated 1976-b1, 1977-b2, 1978-b3, 1979-b4.
Mine manual is titled "Motorcycle Service Manual" and is published by Kawasaki Heavy Industries. I have the revised 1979 edition but seeing how you have a 76 no worries.
The "Lonesome Twin" nickname was created by the Brit gents whose website bears that name. The big twin came out when 4 cylinders and horsepower numbers were in vogue and it never really sold well, hence the nic.
