Just Got Me A KZ was created by TommyLeTucker22
Hello everybody,
My name is Chris, I live in Phoenix and attend MMI. I just recently bought a 1981 KZ650 with a 79 KZ650 motor. It need quite a bit of work but i am willing and ready for a new project. I have a couple questions. First off, will the 79 counter shaft accept an 81 front countershaft sprocket? What gas tanks will fit the 1981 KZ650? And where would the best place to find a transmission cover that goes behind the countershaft sprocket at for a decent price? Thanks.

First off welcome fellow Arizonian....

Follow the link to JTSprockets.... Here you can find the sprocket templates/splines for your ride then start researching into other manufacturers/models for matches.

www.jtsprockets.com/52.0.html

Example, in my project, rear swing arm is a ZX6RR using a 530 pitch chain and sprocket. My KZ is a 630 pitch... Ok, found the KZ & ZX6 data then found that a 1979 KZ750 had the same rear sprocket bolt pattern as the ZX6 in a 630 pitch! :woohoo: was golden!

Since then, have found another source of cc sprockets in a 530 pitch 18 tooth which would have been the way to go... :S ... Maybe next time...

As for covers, I'm sure there's someone here who can help you out for numerous members here are KZ650 (multiple KZ650's) owners.

Welcome Chris,
I'm not a 650 owner but I am working on my KZ1000 project, i'm sure someone would agree that one of the best places to find a tranny cover would be Z1enterprizes.com you might find alot of misc parts you can use there. BTW guys in Arizona, I might be making a ride to Pheonix in July if the wife lets me ride while she drives... Dang women...
