Buying my first bike... 1980 kz650? was created by abeall2
Hi my name is Andrew and I'm 19. I've always rode motorcycles thanks to my old man and it's about time I had one I can use for transportation. I'm looking into older Japanese naked bikes especially. I've found a 1980 Kz650 that seems to be in real good shape. It has around 13k on the odometer and just had a carb rebuild and valve adjustment by a certified Kawi dealer. The guy wants 1300 and I'm pretty much sold. Was wondering what the experts think of my choice. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bought a 79 c3 last September had 9600 miles in pretty good condition just had been sitting since 85. I had to do steering bearings swing arm bearings and rebuild all the brakes. Great bike just be ready to do a little work to make it a great rider. Post some pic's

Sometimes pictures can be deceiving, but if that bike is really as nice as it looks in the pics I'd say buy it quick before someone else does. It looks to be completely stock which is a BIG plus! Ed

WRONG!!!! Plummen made a good catch. The front end has been monkied with as the caliper should be BEHIND the forks. I'd ask the owner for an explanation (was the bike in a wreck that required fork replacement?? Ed

bars look like superbike bars which is no big deal if you like them,im no 650 expert by anymeans but what has me scratching my head is the caliper mounted on front of forkleg.on the big kaws that screams 77 kz1000 or older B)

That would be an 80 kz650 F1 if I'm not mistaken. The F model was the last of the 650s to have the duckbill tail and sporty looks of the earlier bikes. BUY IT!!!

She's clean, she's a runner (presumably), and very very nice judging by the pictures.

Someone has changed the forklegs from side to side, that explains the forward mounted caliper and the disc on the right side. It is an 80 F model and a nice one at that. I have one myself and it is one of my favorite bikes. For $1300.00 you should probably grab it. I know I wouldn't sell mine that cheap.
