new kid on the block
09 May 2009 19:03 - 09 May 2009 19:13
Hello everyone, My name is John and I have been sick for 5 years and have neglected my bike outdoors all this time because of severe depression and listening to the doctors. I have decided that IF I haven't kicked the bucket by now that its TIME TO RIDE. I want to take a trip(about 1200 miles one way) and if I don't make it back- well I went happy! I am 60 years old going on 75 it seems. I am going to do a frame up this summer getting ready to head out to Florida in the early fall. Due to tight money I am going to need to camp out to save bucks. I WILL need a trailer and so IF ANYONE has any pics of a trailer hitch- on a bike- off a bike- or engeneering ideas to build one, I would welcome ALL imput. I have looked but don't see many good pulling points. THANK YOU for letting me bend your ear and IF I can help you PLEASE let me know. john

Welcome John!
All I can say is, Rock Til You Drop! Just keep putting one foot in front of the other, piss on the medical people. If you need some trailer ideas, we have a lot of people here, in the design and engineering business. Just keep asking around, someone will be glad to help. You have alot of missed time, to make up for, so get busy my friend!

Hey, great to hear youre gona get out on the road. The only way I can see a trailer hitch being mounted is by running struts instead of shocks and having the hitch location mount to your struts. Although, having a stiff suspension will be hard on ya, especially that long of a trip.

Here is my reply from your post in the chassis section.
Here is some pics of somone building a trailer hitch picasaweb.google.com/arch01com/VTXMotorcycleTrailerHitch# . However I don't know if the frame on a KZ900 is up to it for this design, I'm bar far no expert, just being concerned for you safety . I suppose you considered bags and a luggage rack? You could resell them when you get back...
Oh, and welcome to this site.
PS: If you ride through Pensacola,FL let me know.
