Hi! restoreing a dragbike in Texas
09 Apr 2009 16:44 - 09 Apr 2009 16:49
Hi, I found this site searching for info for KZ900's. I started out with a 77 KZ900 but ended up trading it for a 70's era KZ900 dragbike. From what I was told by the original owner , it has a 1170cc kit in it, Kenny Harmon cams, and a Sid Pogue built head. It has a ARD magneto and its got Hurst Airheart brakes o the rear. It'sbeen stting for a couple of decades in his garage. I plan on restoring it and running it on the weekends.

that is one awesome old drag bike i love it. if you ever want to get rid of it i'll take it off your hands quickly i'll sell something like a kidney or a liver i'm pretty sure i must have two of those after surviving my drinking days as well as i have, perhaps even that third testicle i hear you really only need two. seriously i'm glad you plan on doing something good with it don't change anything if you don't have to, that bike has deserved a pampered life try to keep it as original as possible.and i'm serious about the offer if you decide it is gonna be trouble to do it right. because it would go to a good home. do you know any of it's racing history other than what you have stated do you know what classes it ran in.

im gonna take a shot in the dark and say that bike was originally blown and running a serious load of juice in its day, then switched to the na motor when it got to be too expensive to keep up with the jones's.

LOL, Sorry for teasin you. I'm gonna talk more to the original owner tomorrow and find out some more history on it. I think the last time it was ran was before I was born,LOL!! I live in Dayton and spend alot of time in Houston(freinds, family, work). I plan to keep it as original as possible. The only thing I thought of changing was the front end. It has a cb125 front end(at least I think thats what he told me) with a cable powered disc brake(SCARY) I have a KZ900 front end sitting next to my shop I plan to rebuild and use on it. I do want to run a spoke wheel to keep with the look of the current front end, so if anyone has a nice spoke wheel they'll trade for a mag let me know. I gotta get my shop cleared out some so I can start cleaning on it. This is gonna be a fun project for me, I always wanted a bike to run down the strip on and this one has that nostalgic look and feel to it that gives me goose bumps everytime I touch it (maybe even a bit of a chub). I'll definitely be frequenting the KZR for help and tech stuff since this is my first KZ, besides the 650 I had to sell because I could'nt afford my rent at the time:S .I'll see if I can get some more pics up too.
