Hey All,

Thought I'd post something seeing as I just pieced back together my 78 KZ650. It has a new front end, which was lowered about two inches, cafe racer seat that was/is a real pain in the ass. I had to get it professionally upholstered because my futile attempts were just ugly, but I was happy with the way it turned out. I also chopped as much off the bike as I could, still have a couple nubbs here and there to hack off. I took a grinder wheel to the face during one such chopping session (avatar pic)), didn't hurt much, and at least now I have a cool scar. The bike still needs work - brake job, carb synch, tail light/license plate assembly, and even possibly a new gasket set. I also have to re-route my clutch and brake cables, as you can see in the pictures everything was just kind of slapped together. Anyways just thought some might be interested in seeing it.

Bike will look cool. And you will not believe how much truth there is in Marks observation about chicks and scars. Not to mention hang out night swappin war stories n' gettin buzzed. GLuck on the bike. Get it done.

I drilled a couple holes in the bottom of the seat, then bolted it directly on to the frame. It was the only way it would fit properly. I built a seat pan that I was going to use to hold everything in place, and so I could get at my battery easily, but because the frame is so wide, the pan, with the seat wouldn't fit properly. It was sitting on top of the frame which didn't look good. I've attached a couple more pics, pay no attention to the position of the levers, everything was just slapped back together until I get time to re-route all the cables.

Looks great, I know what a pain it is to mount a seat like that. They look way better than the stock seat but you give up the comfort. Check out my pics, I mounted the battery and the electronics in the seat hump so you can see thru the bike. If you do that maybe you should wear some gloves. You did a GREAT job!!!
