82 GPz 750 - restification
25 Feb 2006 00:24
Hi guys,
My brother had twin 82 GPz 750's in Virgina - 10 years ago we did a fantastic ride on the Blueridge Parkway in VA. 5 years agon I brought one of those bikes in pieces back to Saskatchewan after it was kinda used as a parts bike for the other - which was sold.
It needs a full exhaust system, as well as the carb set up - but I *should* have everything else to put it back together.
Plan is to strip and paint the frame, repaint all exterior panels, engine, and then reassemble with new bearings and such.
Day job is an IT guy, hobby has been race mechanic (Rally & Pikes Peak) as well as tinkering on my Peugeot's (I like weird stuff!). I've had bikes since I was a kid, but the last was sold before I got married 6 years ago (!) (1100 Spectre that I customized) - I just haven't gotten around to the 750 till now.
Looking forward to the advice, and hopefully I can contribute once I start working on the bike. I have pics from the VA trip - when I get a chance to scan them, I'll post them in the gallery.

I don't think there were pics posted - but my brother may have when he was selling the one bike.
One of the bikes was bone stock, the other had a supertrap full exhaust system and 29mm smooth bores. The bone stock bike got sold with the exhaust, and he sold the smooth bores separately as they were worth more off the bike as parts.
His plan was to restore the parts bike, but he was moving and said I could have the rest of the bike if I wanted it - so I loaded the rest of the bike in my Peugeot 505 Turbo (4 door sedan) and drove 3500 km back to Canada with it.
I've been thinking about getting a new bike - but I LOVE this 82 so I want to get it going first before spending any $$$ on a new bike.
Hopefully I can get it back on the road with som TLC. Ideally it will eventually be a hybrid bike with modern suspension and wheels - I love that classic look combined with modern driveability/brakes.
