Hi guys, been reading posts here for a couple of weeks now and already got a wealth of information and decided to become a member.
I bought a brand new Z 1000 A 2 (european model with the dual disc) in 1976 or 1977 (can't remember) and rode it for about 10 years. Two weeks ago I found a 1977 KZ 1000 on Craigslist (non-runner in bad shape) only 20 miles from my house. Now, I finally have a project bike. Here is the plan: ZRX 1200 Swingarm, Frontend, Wheels, Frame bracing and engine 1075.
My daily rider is a 2001 ZRX 1200 R.

I am not sure at this point. I am looking at the APE SSR 1075 Street Kit and APE Cylinder Headwork and maybe Mikuni RS's 34 or 36 mm.
I am still in the "research" phase. I'll be taking the frame to a shop next week to get the swingarm fitted.

Timebomb - I'll be doing most of the work myself (that's the whole idea of my project - to keep me busy and out of the living room  ), but I am not set up to do machine work. There is some machining involved in getting the 1200 Swingarm fitted that I can't do.

bill - just figured out how to do it :cheer:

Mc - I've been taking pics - just need to figure out how to post them (I am such a computer illeterate :woohoo: )

There's a guy in Mesa that did a front and rear end on a z1r turbo from a zrx1100. Sweet. By the way TJ at Eastside Performance in Mesa knows a ton about these bikes and has been working on them since dinasaurs roamed the earth. Stop by his shop sometime. Tons of cool vintage bikes including z1's, kz's, old Indians etc. By the way, he's the one that did the conversion on the z1r I was referring to.

Welcome from a ZRX1100 rider.
My project is similar also except its a KZ750. ZRX1100 swingarm, zx636 front end, zx6 front wheel, zx9 rear wheel.
I'll post pics once I have a few worthy ones. Waiting on the zx trees to be machined to fit the KZ frame.

Good luck on your project.

BTW, are you on the ZRXOA.org forum too?

Yes, I am the ZRXOA board as well. I would like to see your machined tripple trees after they get done. Sounds like a cool project your KZ 750.

Will do. I'll post pics when I get them back.

The shop told me that the zx stem is thick enough, and close enough, that it may be able to be machined to fit the KZ frame. If so, that would be great. New bearings, and locking nuts on top, and I'll be good to go. If not, they'll machine me a new stem to match the KZ stem as it is welded into the lower tree and can't come out.

Stay tuned.
