Old/New drag racer from Colorado

Hello Kaw fans!

I was a 20 something motorcycle drag racer in 1974, waiting on my CB750 engine to be built up with a big bore kit, when I took a skydiving first jump course.

Since then I've been draging the old Honda around with me for the last 35 years, in basket case form, but now that I'm a retired commercial pilot and drop zope operator, I see I'll need a Kaw to satisfy me on the strip.

So, I went to Phoenix last week, and bought a KZ roller. 1981 KZ 1100-B1



Now I'm looking for a drop in engine/carbs/ingition, as well as some extra parts so I can build up a hot engine.

I reckon you'll be seeing a lot of me around here.

I flew jumpers out in Buckeye AZ for a number of years. What dropzone do you operate?

My favorite would be when the owner would come up during my preflight and say that a pilot complained that the engine cut out a few times the previous day and wanted me to go up and diagnose the problem. :ohmy:

I've flown jumpers all over the US, but was DZO at Calhan, CO (6450'msl) and flew T206, T207, 208, 208A, DHC6-100 there from 1995 to 2003.

Were you at Buckeye when Rick Horn or Nick DiG was there?

I remember the name Rick Horn. Hair follicle challenged? Mostly we flew 182's in Buckeye. Although during the winters every once in a while we would have a King Air or 208. Eloy is the Mercedes Benz of DZ's in this neck of the woods.

Always wanted the chance to fly a Otter, but it never happened. :S

welcome i'm starting to feel good another drag racer welcome since you have been out of the game for a while if you need any help or insperation give me a pm and i'm sure i can point you in the right direction. looks like you have the start of a decent toy. also seeing as you are altitude challenged like i'm up here i can probably give you a few tips on set-ups good luck and have fun with it.

You've come to the right site. Lot's of great information and knowledgeable individuals.

I'm also a long time dragracer and part time street rider.

My first strip bike was a Triumph Cub..since 1988 I've building and racing KZ's. I'm in Vegas and race in Phoenix when the opportunity come up. I would guess you'll end up at the "Strip", in Vegas, sooner or later. If so let me know when your coming and we'll keep an eye for you.
Let us know how it's going with the project. I know a couple racers in the Phoenix area so if you're looking for parts or info let me know.

I got lucky today, and bought a partial basket case...a 1992 KZ1000 Police bike, minus frame, forks, wheels, and trim.

I'll use the rest to get my roller dressed out and moving under it's own power.

I'll post in the engine forum as soon as my engine is delivered.
