got my first Kawi

I've got a sweet green motocross helmet from around 1980 or so (big blue kawasaki logo) and my wife was trying to throw it away "You don't even have a kawasaki bla bla bla.." Well i had to find one. 1982 KZ750 ltd. So now i get to keep the helmet too. Previous owner was complete idiot, bike has been dropped more times than a bowling ball Everything is scratched, dented, and F-ed up. I totally appreciate the look of the restored kz's; however this one is not worth it.
I paid 200 and have to replace the ignition first thing to see if it will start. motor turns over and everything is there so ive got hope. this bike is gonna be a hardtail with a chopper seat and drag bars. Looks like a great bunch of guys on this site

And that helmet you have...I'd think twice about using it,being that old.Probably not as good as a newer one.
They DO expire over time.
Just thought you should know.

Yeah you should probably ditch the helmet, although i was hoping you could at least paint the bike lime green with a rattle can so we could have another member with a green bike!!:laugh:

Welcome to the club. Love having another 750-4 around! Having an '82 Ltd myself, I kinda hate to see another one chopped up, but if it's in as bad a shape as you say, probably the best.

durn it... I can't find the pic. But a friend of mine in Maine won a bike that had sat in the middle of a golf driving range for 4 months. It was a Yammy Maxim. Man those Maine Golfers are pretty good shots. What a mess. But it ran good and he used it for 2 years after fixing a few leaks, a new headlight and rear light. He used a rubber bung with a hole in it for a cap. One cop threatened to have it towed. They would turn it around about every other week. If I find the pic I will post it. the bike has gone on to the boneyard since.

Use the helmet to keep a few beverages cold as you tear into the bike and try to figure out where to start, that way you won't track grease through your living room on the way to the fridge.

picked up the bike on sunday for 200 today went to the junkyard got pick-up coil, rotor thingie, cover and igniter for 143 installed and she fired right up. 343 for a running bike aint too bad is it? Bought the bike from a tow/salvage lot so no key- but now i know how to hot wire--just like nicholas cage ha. bike wont idle so im gonna tackle the carbs tomorrow and noticed a fair amount of oil coming out of the counter shaft sprocket area. pulled the cluctch cover and it looks at some point a chain grenaded and trashed that countershaft cover?? (dont know the exact name
havn't picked up a manual yet) anyway theres JB weld and RTV holdin the oil in- barely so im gonna have to get a new one of them too. BTW is 150 a fair price for 2-1 exhaust-x2
