Good Morning..Now with pictures.
14 Oct 2008 18:27 - 14 Nov 2008 15:11
Hi. Im Donald. I live in Alton IL.
Anyway, I've been looking for a good cheap starter bike over the last month or two. I was about to buy a KZ400 when My Cousin said he had a 1980 KZ1000 he would give me for free. So Naturally I took him up on it. I know it's not the greatest first bike; people can get in trouble with 92 hp really quick; but don't worry; my testicules are small when it comes to bikes. When I was 18 it wouldn't have been so...
Ok moving on. The bike was his daily driver for about a yera and a half. Until he bought a new Sportster last summer. For the most part it has set in his garage snice then. He has rode it about 50 miles over the last year.
The bike is currently in Flordia. I'll be heading down there in January to pick it up. I don't have any pictures; nor have I seen it in person. But he tales me the paint is faded, it has a fist size dent in the tank, and is missing a mirror. It has new tires, breaks, rotors and a clutch. All were replaced after he stopped ridding it every day as he was prepping the bike to sale. Once I get it up here I'll spend the rest of the winter getting it ready for spring.
I've been lurking the last few days. Mostly in the project section. I must say there are some very taliented people on here. More than likely I'll just be lurking until I get the bike here. I might make a few post once I get a better idea of what I want to do with the bike. But I figured I'd say hello for now.
Edit:
Bike is setting on a trailer in a shed right now. So of the stuff was staying in the shed. We unloaded the trailer then reloaded it. The sky then proceeded to open up and poor down. We ended up leaving the trailer there. I only had my cell phone on me so I just grabed a few shots. We are going to try again tomorrow and I'll have a real camara. Anyway. Here it is. Not bad for free.

Hello back to you and Welcome.
Sounds as though you scored where other than cosmetics, you should have yourself a running bike.!
"1980 KZ1000: I know it's not the greatest first bike..."
Don't ever say that again or the KZ God's will punish you severely.![;) ;)](/media/kunena/emoticons/11.png)
All KZ's are the greatest bikes and this model is not a joke. You'll be surprised how fast this old girl is to even today's standards.

BTW>>> Pictures are a must or go away, KZ God's rules...

My not the greatest I mean, most people tell me I need to start off on a "small, nice bike." Not a 1000 CC, 92 HP, 510 lb bike.
I'll try dig up pictures. He actually moved up here and left most of his stuff in Fl. (Parents health issue combine with a little bit of work related stuff.) We'll be bringing up the bike in January along with the rest of his stuff. I'm already trying to get him to have a friend go over to his place and take a picture of it. Don't worry. This will be the first place I brag about it once I get one.

restored and reworked?as long as it has air in the tires it shouldnt take much more than a trip to the carwash and some chain lube to make it capable of smoking a sportster!
