Newbie from Northern Wisconsin

Hello all I am so glad that I found this site. I just bought an 1981 1100 gpz, I have not got the bike yet but I think I gotta pretty good deal at $500 bucks and it only has 18,000 mile on her. Its been sitting for about a year and has an idle issue, I ll be asking a bunch of questions so I just wanna say Thanks in advance!!!


The guy I picked her up from works with me but he is on vacation till next weekend so I am iching for him to get back so I can pick her up.

Welcome birchwood82...we are looking forward to pictures... yep, US$500 is a pretty good deal...does the bike have fuel injection or has it been converted to carbs? And whereabouts in northern Wisconsin? Spent some time there a number of years ago:)

Just wondering what I should be looking for when I do pick her up. She will not idle as of now but once she is up and running she runs good. Any ideas?

My parents lived by Marinette for a number of years, I spent some time in Ashland while I went to school at UW-Milwaukee. Nice country up there. Whether the bike has carbs or the original fuel injection will determine how you approach idling issues.

As far as the idle goes,it COULD be something simple like the idle adjustment screw,so don't panic yet.
The fuel system will probably need a good cleaning if the bike has sat for that long,so be prepared for some work.
Lots of help here,that's for sure.

Sorry guys for delay I work Second shift, it still has injectors and has 18000 for mileage. Is the carb conversion the way to go? I am not scared to turn some wrenches as I have rebuilt/built a few vehicles in my day. This is my first Kawasaki and I know the guy pretty well but it will be a week from today when I can get her home so as soon as I do you will know.
