Look closely on the steering stem as the white VIN sticker may have been removed...Kawasaki also embossed the frame VIN into the steering stem beneath the white VIN sticker. This is the only place the frame is formally marked. If you have a replacement frame, there might be no VIN associated with it. In this case, you'll have to figure out the differences between the R frame and closely related frames (e.g. J and B model frames) and look for those differences as clues. The motor will tell what it is based on the VIN...the frame may be different.

Yes, the motor VIN will give us a start...If you are not comfortable posting the entire series, then just the first 10 digits or so will point in the proper direction. The ground-off frame VIN should you pause for thought...do you have registration for the bike? if so, what is the number on the registration used as VIN?

As an aside, my initial reaction is that I was looking at a repainted KZ1100B2 that had been converted to carbs...motor VIN will tell...

the motor vin is kzt10beo11xxx

i xed out the last 3
the motor looks like that of a j bike which is why i thought it was a r1 or a r1 clone. i do not have a registration yet. i have a bill of sale and i have to have it inspected this month at the state highway patrol. i do have a bill of sale with previous owner, price, description, and motor vin. they said that they have ways of finding out the vin.

Yep, it is a 1982 KZ1100B2 motor...you probably have a KZ1100B2 (AKA GPz1100) that has been repainted and had the FI replaced with CV carbs....nice bike (I also have one) but it ain't all the rare R1 you were thinking. I'm not sure who told you that they could find the frame VIN from the motor VIN, but they can't...even Kawasaki didn't keep track...they could however, if they want to be nice, use the motor VIN on the new title:)

A ground off VIN? Hmmmm I am not sure I would take the bike to a police station to have it inspected as the ground off number is kind of a FLAG for a hot bike. Better to buy a used frame with title and swap over all the parts.
