Not really new....But
19 Jul 2008 09:42 - 19 Jul 2008 09:42
I finally picked up a KZ. '78 1000 A2A. very clean, good chrome/paint. Needs a little TLC maintenance wise. I'm planning on doing an elect. ign/coils right away and straightening out the carbs (rough idle). Good to officially be part of the family now!![:) :)](/media/kunena/emoticons/8.png)

Welcome to the KZR Nation. That's a really nice bike. You're in for some big fun with that. ![:cheer: :cheer:](/media/kunena/emoticons/10.png)
Have you done the WG Coil Repowering mod yet?
Best of success!![:) :)](/media/kunena/emoticons/8.png)

Most of us have done the
WG Coil Mod
and it makes a difference!

If not already done, would change oil and filter and install in-line fuel filter.
Would remove plugs and look for good strong spark (coil mod may not be immediately needed).
Would perform compression check while plugs are out (remember to hold throttle wide open).
Good Luck with this fine looking bike!

And also assure correct valve clarances before addressing the carbs.

Welcome!
Very nice looking KZ1000.
Rough idle MAY be due to dirty/clogged pilot jets. If your valve clearances are OK, then try some SEAFOAM in the gas tank. Add it to gas per the instructions. Might help to smooth out your idle.
