New owner of a '79 KZ650
12 Jul 2008 13:53 - 12 Jul 2008 13:56
Hey guys. Found this site while browsing through the forums at kawasakimotorcycles.org, and have enjoyed looking at all of your bikes.
I just picked up a '79 KZ650 a week ago. Decided at long last, I was going to have a bike. I went to a few different dealerships, looking at various bikes. Found a few I liked, but it was always too much money (save longer) or the salesguy was only out for his comission.
Finally, almost ready to go back home, I stopped at a little hole in the wall Kawa shop. After looking around the showroom, and deciding there were no used bikes, I looked toward the street, and saw a line of bikes. Two caught my eye right away.
Sitting there was an old Honda Nighthawk, and beside it, a KZ650. I looked first at the Honda, but it had a few "repaired" cracks and over 61000 miles, and a rough idle.
Once I sat on the KZ, I was home. It's all stock, original parts, and only 13000 miles. It fired right up, idled smooth, and made a very smooth transition from lower to higher RPM, despite only being just started.
We went back in the shop, and I put $1000 down on the spot. A week after picking it up - over 300 miles added to the odo, and haven't looked back!

Hehe, I know what you mean. I only have the one bike, and it took a divorce to get it. My ex-wife was completely against motorcycles, and still "reminds" me anytime she sees it that I'm not to take the kids on it.
