Howdy From Fort Worth, TX

Hi.

Just thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself and my bike. My name is Robert, But everyone calls me Crash. I am a graphic designer by hobby, and have been riding motorcycles since I could throw a leg over. Live in Fort Worth, TX, so anyone around that wants to ride, give me a shout.

My, Bike? She's Ema. A 1978 KZ650SR. Bought off of Craigslist for $500, I took her home and performed the usual maintenance stuff, and she fired right up. Since I have had her, I have lowered the rear end 2", installed a Dyna S ignition system with Dyna Coils, removed the turn signals (will replace with aftermarket soon) and just rode the snot out of her. She Gets about 47 MPG right now, but I REALLY need to sync the carbs.

Future plans are a Kerker 4 into 1, pods, stage 3 jet kit (that's why I have not synced the carbs yet) Blood Red Pearl paint, polish the engine and lower forks, repaint the rims solid flat black (maybe), Euro or Superbike bars, LTD or Corbin Gunfighter seat, Lower the Headlight and Gauges about 2", H4 headlight upgrade, LED Turns Signals, remove Starter (I never use it), Bar end Mirrors, and anything else that might come to mind to make her completley mine.

This is my second KZ650. The first was a 1980 Model that I chopped. Will never do that again.

And finally, the pics.

Nice!

When you go to the pods, make sure you keep all of the original airbox stuff. Lots of people have gone to pods only to switch back. No experience personally, but I gather pods cause problems on rainy or windy days. But they sure look good, that's for sure!

Hey man. New to the whole bike thing. I, too, have a 78, but it does not look nearly as clean as yours. I should have it up a going here shortly. I am in Arlington at 287 and I-20.

If I was you I would keep that beauty just as she is and find another more weathered bike to mod as you have described.

That bike looks like it is in great shape.

There are tons of bikes out there that need to resurected that could benifit from the type of work that you have described. It would cost you the same amount, aside from $500 - $1000 bucks for a more weather machine to fix up.

To each his own I guess, but way to go on that find.
