Hi guys! I've been reading bits from your forum for a couple of years now and really like the advice I hear. My first bike was a 1982 KZ450- such a sweetie, and I have a KZ750 CSR now. Does anyone know anything about the police models? I found a 2001 KZ1000P for sale any I wonder how it compares.

I thought KZ1000P's were only made until '95?

Regardless, my KZ1000 is a lot of fun for sure. It goes BALLISTIC when you peg the throttle, but isn't the greatest handler.

What makes it tough to handle? Is the center of gravity higher than the Vtwin bikes? Is there more vibration, or do you mean the bike jerks or lurches?

Honestly I've only ridden about 150 miles on my bike since I bought it, so I'm probably not the most qualified to say. But I can give you my early first impressions... :)

Compared to the very light and agile '76 Honda CB360 I had a few years back, the KZ1000 is a bit heavier feeling in the turns. Its not that it handles badly at all, it is just a bit slow to react to your input. It likes to be muscled around I guess. Steer with intention. Don't expect a ZX-10 or anything. :)

I have a P model from 1997 and I love it. For a bike of this size, it handles like a police bike should - super stable, solid in the turns, and nimble enough for great low-speed stability. It is not as agile as a smaller bike, but a smaller bike won't have the balls that this model does. It is a very common mod bike for drags. Mine doesn't have great range - about 120 miles on a full tank - but it's fun to ride.
