Hello from the 'Nooga
05 Jun 2008 09:33
Longtime lurker's first post. Many thanks to the regulars here whose expert advice is generously provided. More times than I can recall a topic search will produce exactly the bit of wisdom needed.
Much wisdom was needed, too, after talking my brother out of a basket-case '84 KZP he had tucked away in a dark corner. Bought by a friend of his at auction, the ex-Atlanta PD patrol bike had spent a neglected ~15 yrs awaiting resurrection. I spent a fast and furious 2 months making it ride-able for a fall '06 trip to the Smoky Mountains. Many problems had to be deferred in the interest of time & money limitations.
Now I'm well into a proper restoration. Disassembly is complete, with engine teardown pending. Many decisions still to be made and problems to be overcome.
I'll try to post progress pics as I can and share any valuable tips or resources discovered (All in the appropriate forum, of course).

"Proper" restoration... no kiddin!
Wish I had the guts/time/patience to do a frame-up resto on mine. Maybe one day...
