Hi all.
16 Apr 2008 15:46
Hello all. Been lurking for a week or so now and wanted to jump on board. Nice forum and nice moderation work from what I see so far.
I'm looking at an 84 KZ 550 LTD. Looks great w/ good paint and body, tires and brakes and seems solid, but at idle only runs on the right two cylinders. After about 2500 or so RPM, the left two hit and the bike is strong. I'm thinking the pilot jet may be clogged in those two or they're just way out of sync.
Anyway, looking at it for my wife as it is light weight and seems much more nimble than any of my other bikes, and she is ready to learn.
The price is 1000 firm.
What do yall KZ riders think?
Thanks for all the good info I've already gleened from this site.

Welcome aboard, Westy.
The price is hard to call as I don't know where you hail from. The issue may be as simple as running some Seafoam through it with the gas or require more diagnosis/work.
A few years ago a buck a cc seemed to be the going rate for a bike that wasn't ready to title and ride. The past couple of years and particularly during the past year that figure has risen with ridable examples easily exceeding two bucks a cc.
This time of the year commands the highest prices since riding season is young or just getting underway in the northern hemisphere. Chances are that even at a Grand, you won't get hurt.

if you want my opinion ( which usually is not worth doodly squat ) $1000 is way high on a 550.
i also would like to know where you hail from since i have a good running 550 i am having trouble getting $500 for.
$1 a cc for a bike with issues is a good baseline.
got any pictures of the old girl?

As has been mentioned, many factors impact the price of a bike, including time of year and location. However, I'm leery of a bike with a firm price yet doesn't run well...it isn't worth US$1000...not to me anyway...but it may be the bike of your wife's dreams:)

Welcome welcome!!
How many more bikes are on the market in your area? How long has this bike been available at that price? Have you spoken with this person?
I paid 800 for a 77 650 C1 that needed tons of work. I got hosed hard. But I fell in love with the bike anyhow. In the end,... No regrets!
I might pay the 1000 if it is what you are looking for and there are few others out there. Supply and Demand.
It needs work, albeit simple fix perhaps. Does 750 sound bad all? It is early riding season and she does 'run'.
He Probably won't be able to sell it at that price. Keep in touch with the guy.

It's been on the market for a while, and I'm in Eastern NC. Lot's of bikes here for sale, but few that are smaller in both size and CCs. I'm sure she'll take less for it, and I haven't really dickered with her much. Anyway, I'll try and attach some pics.
