New Guy with a barnfind Z2 750
17 Mar 2008 12:59 - 17 Mar 2008 13:01
Hey guys hows it goin. My name is Dutin and I found my way here from dotheton.com I got this bike in a deal and wasnt really that interested in it. I am really into cafe style bikes and kinda like cutting them up. Everyone at dotheton forums is telling me not to mess it up too much.
Here are the specifics. The engine says Z2E in front of the motor no title Motor turns freely, having some clutch issues though. I have no idea what year it is.
Heres a pic the day I got it I will put more in the projects page. I want to cafe it but it sounds like maybe I should sell it to a Kawasaki Lover to restore. You guys lemme know what I should do. I dont wanna tear up a rare piece of Motorcycle history.
Dustin

Hey Dustin, I see you found your way over here.
Yeah, what they said. Hang on to the bike for a little while as you research the market so you'll know about how much to ask. I bet one of the Texas KZR guys will offer you a deal PDQ, see if you can swap for a running KZ650/750 that you could cafe. Parts are cheap and they have better frames than the Z1/Z2.

Dustin, without getting into frame numbers (and I'm not sure that would help us, as there doesn't appear to be the database for Z2's as exists for Z1's) I would make an educated guess that the bike is a 1974 or 1975 Z2-A. This is based on (1) the side cover emblems narrow it to 1973-75 (starting in 1976 the emblems were different), and (2) the reflectors on the rear shocks are red (the 1973 had yellow reflectors). There isn't much difference between the 1974 and 1975 models...you'd really have to dig to find some production numbers and then look at frame numbers. Z2's were made from 1973 through 1980 and were exported from 1977 to 1980 (but not to North America). You definitely have a 'gray' bike and it definitely has been repainted...and yes, I'm interested:P   Does it show?

I know of a Z2 for sale in the Tampa Fla, area. If the guy still has it that is. I could find out if anyone is interested. From what I remember it was painted different than stock and had the typical aftermarket mods. He was not in a hurry to sell it, so he might still have it.

Wow! A Z2! Just saw them in books. That is 1 nifty machine. Looks like exhaust and seat are the only non orig pieces. Ya got a find there. Should go a ways in getting you a rider. But give the buyer a break if they are going to restore it to orig. It deserves to be prettyed up and seen. You got the interest of a guy on here that I believe would do her right. Pretty close to you too (I think). Maybe you can secure visitation rights? I'm already looking forward to the project thread!

Thanks for the great response guys. Its pretty cool to find things like this. Im not a kawasaki fanatic but i like all bikes so this is pretty fun for me. I would love to trade for a running 650/750 4cyl that maybe has a few things left to do. I would like to trade staight across but I dont want to be an A**hole either. Anyone on this board or dotheton.com will get first shot at it if no one wants it Ill throw it on the bay(maybe) I might just go ahead and tinker with it for awhile but I promised guitargeek I would not cut it up and I wont part it out. Just throw some offers out there and we'll see what happens. I will put it back together for whomever grabs it up.
thanks again
