That paint looks awesome, is that original or was it repainted before? Judging from the stripes Id say original

It's all original paint, and everything else is except the seat, that's on the way. took off the highway bars.

I bought a 78 KZ650SR a few years ago and it has the exact same seat. Not only do I not like it, but I bought a new battery, and the seat won't close over it. I checked and checked and there's nothing under the battery or anything else keeping the seat from lowering, but the seat just doesn't seem to have the clearance.
Anyone else have problems getting DieHard batteries to fit?

Welcome to KZr JayC.
It sounds to me like you were sold a battery that is to tall.
I know that the correct Yuasa brand battery for your bike is a YB10L-A2 (Inch dimensions: 5.1325" x 3.5625" x 5.75" Metric dimensions: 135mm x 90mm x 145mm).
The DieHard brand battery for your bike should be a (Sears part#) 44355, which shows as being identical to the Yuasa YB10L-A2 in all aspects.
If some place sold you the wrong battery, I'd suggest returning it and having them get you the correct one - it's prime riding season right now, and something as simple as a battery preventing you from riding is a shame.

Thanks for the welcome. Yeah, it's gotta be the battery. I just wanted it to be the seat because I hate it. But now that I lost the SR seat that was just on Ebay, I may as well suck it up and skulk back to Sears and see what I can do without my receipt.
It also looks like I need to get a pick of my bike on here.

1979 650's rock. Don't know if you still have a petcock leak, but i just in case recommend the suzuki petcock from Z1...so much better than KZ stock.
