New Guy
27 Dec 2007 06:56
Hello to all. Jeff from Minnesota here. Lot's of great info on this forum. Thanks to everyone who has helped me without knowing it. I've been able to search to old posts and get the answers I needed.
Here's my current project. When I got this old girl she was pretty beat up. The bars, lights, gauges and tank were all smashed and the rear of the frame had a nice twist to it.
The original idea was to part her out but after I shockingly got more than the purchase price selling her passenger grab rails on eBay I thought I'd try to give her a new life.
Mods so far:
Frame is now rigid, 4 inches longer and sits about two inches lower than stock.
Bars are off of a police KZ.
Tank is, I believe, from a KZ 750 twin.
Rear fender is off of a 70's Honda CB and was chopped about 6 inches.
Seat is a cheapo off of eBay.
Forward pegs.
Right hand tank shifter.
Shortened kickstand 1ΒΌ".
Side mounted Model-A tail light.
Not shown in the pics is a vented mock oil tank mounted under the seat which holds the electronics.
Not trying to offend any purists here. I just couldn't see letting such a well built bike fade away. She'll never be a show-piece but that's not the goal here. Bringing her back from the dead and getting her to run like a top is.
My other girl is a '05 Yamaha Road Star. Yeah, I'm old, fat and my ramp rocket days are long gone.
Take care all and thanks again,
Jeff

Welcome to the site Jeff. Nice to hear that all the goings on here have been useful to you already. Looks like you're having fun with this project.
By the way, any chance of getting your year, model and location in your signature. I was not able to figure it out from your message or your picture. Helps to get relevant feedback too.
Best of success!

Thanks and it has been a blast to build. Lots of little tabs and brackets and what-not to fabricate.
Sorry about the sig not being set up. didn't know where it was but it is now. As you can see I'm a total rookie on this board. Even got a double post.
By the way. I got the KZ650B off the title but how do I tell if my bike is a B1, B2, etc? Is this related to the year?

Jeff, don't worry about it! If you've never double posted chances are you never posed at all. Don't ask me how I know.
Another KZ650 on the site... cool. I bust everyone's ball bearings about the signature thing... its because of my deteriorating eye sight I guess and not because I'm anal or anything... or maybe there're related?
Enjoy the cast of characters here and best of success.
