My name's Art. I'm bike wh0re from MA.

I just picked up an 82 KZ 750 as a second bike for the colder/crummier winter weather of New England. Bike runs well but has a rattle at idle, one of the reasons the PO was selling.

Rear end's been trimmed, seat cut down to solo, and the entire thing rattle canned black. Price was right.

I grew up racing MX on KXs throught the 80s and early 90s. Still have a KTM 250sx in the stable as well as a PW50 for my sons.

My main bike is a 2002 Indian Scout.
I belong to a few motorcycle forums.

I test rode a SuperDuke and fell in love.
For 1/3 the money I could have one of these

Couldn't test ride it due to lack of gear and nowhere to put my 3yr old for a couple hours

Finally got to get out and stretch the legs on the KZ.
Wow, what a heap of fun!
Found myself looking for another gear on the highway this morning as I was lumbering along. Gotta learn to ride this differently than the big ol' V-Twin.

Once in the mid to upper rpm range this bike screws!

Welcome, Art!
I'm sure you'll have some fun with the KZ.
Your rattle at idle...
might just be a loose timing chain. Have you tried adjusting the tension?

Haven't tried yet. It goes away as the idle goes up.
I was having some idle issues at 32ºF, as in wouldn't idle and was stalling. Kept the choke on slightly.
I can get the rpm to drop real low by dragging the clutch and there's no rattle.

Read on here that it could be the primary chain slapping and a carb synch should help.

I gotta get the time to look into that, adusting the cam chain tension, and cleaning the carbs out.
