just found this bike for sale, owner says he'll let it go for $750. I don't know anything about these bikes, are there any trouble areas I should look for, common issues etc? Is there a FAQ online anywhere that would tell me some of this?

Thanks!
Heres a link to the bike...

I'd buy it for $750... its a good looking bike and good size... kz are fast fun bikes.... you will not be dissappointed after you buy it... and generally easy enough to fix yourself if you have a problem... I am no mechanic and the help on this site got my bike from pieces to on the streets

Well I paid 3x that for my KZ1000 a year ago... I've had a LOT of fun with it, and never looked back.

This forum is a GREAT resource for info and new friends. I don't think you'd be dissappointed.

Good price. Bulletproof motor. Looks to have stock carbs which can be difficult to get some parts for but if you plan on keeping the airbox and exhaust setup then that wont be an issue. Very reliable.
I would just look out for the usual
lights, tires, chain, running on all 4 - spit on the exhausts and any major oil leaks,
Good luck

I have two of those, and one of its close brother, the KZ750E STD. Great bikes, fun, fast enough for me, decent handling, parts are easy to find and cheap, and the engine is bullet-proof. One of mine will reach 100,000 miles soon.

I say go for it.

100k?? Dang.... must be nice to ride year round! Most people around here are putting there bikes away right now, it tried to snow a bit today.

OK, thanks for the responses, I might have to go check it out tomorrow.

I'm not really one for leaving anything stock, and I'm a mechanic by trade... does the 750 have some potential? ie... can it be 'woken up' with a few mods?

I have exactly the same model 750 as the one you're looking at ... I love mine and for me it's quite fast enough ! My motorcycle buddies all ride Harleys and I'm pretty sure I'm faster than any of them ... LMAO

I agree, the KZ750 is very zippy in stock form. Remember, it is quite a bit lighter than the KZ1000, and has a shorter wheelbase, so it has a much sportier feel.

However, there is a WISECO kit of pistons and rings that will give you 810 cc's and higher compression. Also, if you switch to later model GPZ750 cams, you up the power band, and the gross horsepower. Then swap in a 4 into 1 exhaust, and rejet your carbs, and you are pushing wind faster than I need to go. If you do the work yourself, you can do all of the above for about $1,000 in parts and machine shop work. Quite a bargain for a marked increase in performance.
