can I 'soup up' a 1300 a2?

Hey guys new to the board but excited! Every 1300 search seems to lead here. I'm buying a basically junk 1300 a2 at an impound auction, and I know it's not really worth it but I just want the challenge of building it up. can I get high performance cams, crank, pistons, etc... and does anyone know what best options might be for getting a few extra ponies? I want to chop the frame to get the seat height to around 30" and maybe lower the center of gravity a little bit since it's such a heavy bike. ANY and ALL suggestions are more than welcome as are sources both for new or used and stock or aftermarket. my daily rider is a 77 kz 650 b.

Unless you find some New Old Stock aftermarket items, you can forget about cams. You can have the crank inspected, balanced and lightened by Falicon. I heard Kz650 pistons fit but I don't know if you'll have to bore it or not.

The problem you're going to run into is although you can get pistons and an aftermarket exhaust there really isn't an option for bigger carbs or bigger cams. So you'll be limited on the intake side of the engine.

I have seen turbo kits for the 1300 but those are very rare.

You'll be suprised how much power it makes stock for its size. I believe it makes about 120HP. My father has the 1980 Kz1300B model and its pretty swift when it comes to moving itself and it weighs about 750lbs when ready to go.

I say get the bike running and then see how you like it. It may not be worth putting alot of $$ in anyway.

Thanks! that's what I was wondering about. I believe I read 120hp and 85 lb/ft. I was hoping maybe if I had room to go up a step in piston size and port/polish/deck the head I could get out a little more, but I don't know if the cooling could handle it?? Anyone done the 650's? I know the 900s and 1000's start out with better power to weight ratio, but you know one in hand, two in field, and I like the idea of a water cooled for longer road hauls, and It's just my nature to have to say "Yep I squeezed every last drop of blood out of that turnip!"
