Hello All, Check out my scooter! was created by KP900
Hello. My name is Kelly. I am 28 years old and I am stuck out here in the flat desert everyone else knows as Eastern New Mexico. My 1976 Kz900 has recently been pulled from deep storage, not seeing the light of day in nearly 10 years. My dad taught me to ride it when I was 15, and I was 16 the last time I rode this bike. He got it in 1982 from the original owner....originally he told my dad it was Root Beer brown.

It has 18,000 original miles.
I'll pass on what I know about it. Bone stock longblock with a c/rusty Kerker 4-1 and Pod K&N filters. BR8ES plugs.

Check out the pics before I continue:

Welcome Kelly.
Nice looking 900, although I'd be switching those handle bars. ;)

As of right this minute the bike needs the fuel system gone through, including the carbs  , I want to get a OEM style handle bar setup, a new OEM style seat cover (I also scored a good amount of spare parts :woohoo: ) for a good seat pan and foam that was included with the bike...

I am going to start by removing the tank, seat, carbs, plugs.

Compression test it, to see where the compression is, and see IF I need to do a top side overhaul..

How ever that goes will dictate where I will spend my $$$ budget first.

I want to also get a chrome Vance&Hines 4-1 (cause I LOVE that sound) and new set of Dunlop Tires and just ride this thing again.

What is the preferred "Cruiser/Muscle Bike" Handle Bar" cause I do not like these ram horn pull backs and want something else... ????

Lemme know what ya think and stay tuned!

I agree, keep the kerker. Some high temp grill paint in flat black will fix that right up. I think the kerker is superior to the V&H ;)
New handlebars and lose the seat and sissy bar be a pretty good lookin bike!

Keep the Kerker unless you want a chrome exhaust then blast it, paint it and sell it for some $$$. Dump the sissy bar because they are for sissy's. Get some superbike bars but you will need new throttle cables and a clutch cable.

thanks, I'll link up the vid here pretty soon.

It sounds great.

Compression test yeilded 130-128-128-130 dry, so I went through the fuel system, changed the oil and filter, repainted all the body Duplicolor Gloss Black somethingornuther, removed the gutless (literally and IMO) Kerker 4-1, Installed the V&H, installed a new battery and some B7ES plugs.

Put in some Shell 91 Octane ( thats all we have avail. here) and she fired right up on full choke.

I let her idle after startup and it smoothed right out and held 2200ish.

Once it warmed up a bit, I opened the choke up and it accelerated a bit and kicked on down to 1500 and idled steady.

I knew I had left some adjustment on the throttle cable and tweaked it down to around 1250.

This thing is unbelievably easy to work on...sucks that battery acid overflowed onto my new 4-1

Oh well, lesson learned.

Very nice transformation on the old Kz.

I am glad to see the ape hangers, sissy bar and king-queen seat are in the history books.

You have resurrected a classic in the classic style that it deserves.

Good job!
