My first KZ tomorrow...
04 Jul 2007 08:54
Hi, My name is Jordan Hendricks and as of tomorrow I will be the proud new owner of a 1978 KZ650. 84kz700 and I went and looked at it yesterday and it is really nice. It has a new battery, new rear tire ( front is like new ), new brakes, and best of all a 4-1 Kerker pipe. The bike is only $650. I guess it had been sitting for a while cause he's having back and hip problems. The bike did fire up and run after a minute or two but there was a strong smell of old gas. When I get it tomorrow I will drain the gas, change the plugs, and change the oil and filter and hope she's good to go. I'll also run some seafoam through it to see if that helps it any. I'll get some pictures of it when I get it.

Welcome aboard! Good score on the bikes, You may want to pull the carbs apart and clean them also. Sometimes sediment can clog them up if it sat for awhile. Ride safe, and please post pics...

I couldn't pass on correcting kzwolf regarding spelling and Jimi's demise. Nothing personal...
Just the facts ma'am, just the facts.

Here are the pictures. I should have probably taken them outside. Sorry they didn't turn out very good. 1 question, in the vin number it says KZ650C at the first 6 digits does that mean it's a c version?

It's ok, the pics came out decent enough to get a general idea of it's condition.....not to shabby for $650 bud, especially if it's complete and runs!
And yes, your bike is a "C" model. The "B" model had spoke wheels, drum rear brake and a single disc brake up front.
The "D" (SR) model had the mag wheels (16" rear instead of 18" like the "C" model) and triple disc brakes like your bike, but had diff body work, diff exhaust headers and no painted "ducktail" rear fender like the "B" and "C" models did.

I am in NE ohio around Canton, Akron. The bike does run now. When I got it she was running on 3 cylinders but all new plugs, new gas, and an oil and filter change and she runs perfect now. well not perfect cause I think it's idling a tad rough. I'm going to get some seafoam and see if it'll help. Also what top ends could I put on this if I wanted more power? BTW this kerker 4-1 sounds insane
