Hey all, Rebuilding a '79 650 SR
01 Apr 2007 21:39
Hey everyone, Im MadJoe and my dad has an old '79 650 SR out in the barn. Unfortunatly, dad left a kickstand down on a turn and busted the gauges and bent the bars. Since after (1989 I think), it has been in our barn. Dad drained the fluids, and put oil on top of the cylinders. It still rotates freely and I'm tired of my 14.5 mpg explorer. So my project this summer is to get it up and running. New tires, gauges, chain, rebuilding the carbs, the works. I have a lot of car knowledge and mechanic ability, but not much on bikes. This forum is the best thing I have found yet. Maybe one day I will get a post on the rebuild running. Until then, Later

Welxome to the site, lots of KZer's here to help. Get a factory service manual off eBay or someplace and you shouldn't have any trouble. We like pix too, no matter how it looks.

Welcome, Joe.
I have a '79 SR and I'm rebuilding a '78 SR for a friend. For new parts Z1 Enterprises and Ron Ayers Motorsports have treated me well. For some stuff eBay will be a good resource.
Once you get it going, you'll be in for a treat!
