Hi everyone!

My name is Tommy, and I live in the great state of Oklahoma! I am 24 years old and bought a 1981 KZ650CSR a couple of years ago for 750 dollars. I love my KZ, but I layed it down going about 65 mph in August of 2005.:( So now she is just sitting in my garage waiting to get fixed. I have had many people try to get me to sell it to them, but I love the bike to much even though she put on the pavement at 65mph. She looks fine from the right side, but the left side is hideous. I would love to fix her, but I have a hard time finding parts cheap enough for me to afford. She needs quite a bit to get her back to her old self. If anyone can help me let me know! You can see a photo of her old self next to below. Well I look forward to talking to you fellow KZ guys. Talk to ya soon!! :)

Welcome! All I can suggest for now, since I'm new here myself, is for you to get real specific about what you're looking for. I've found nothing but good, friendly help and advice here. Good luck on getting her back to her natural beauty!

Welcome to KZR Tommy. A big help to those who might be able to help you would be a recent picture of the left side of your scooter...we may be able to help you assess the damage and make suggestions. I suspect you will have to improve your eBay skills...many of us pick up used bits and pieces from that venue.

I agree, lots of great people here.

When I had to do a fair amount of rebuilding on an old bike I had... I found it advantageous to get a parts bike that was of a similar year and model.

Hope ya can get her back to her former glory!

Hey guys! Thanks for all the friendly advice. Now I will let you all know what my situation is. I want to restore my 650, but I don't have the funds to buy a lot of new parts. I have looked on ebay, but unfortunately I can't afford to buy all the separate parts from different people. The shipping costs alone would eat my wallet. So, now I have decided that my best alternative would be to find a good parts bike as conpewter said. I seen a good parts bike on ebay a few months ago, but it was in Florida. I am going to check out the parts interchangibality link that H1Vindicator presented to me. Thanks again everbody, and I will be looking forward to getting more info from you guys! Here is a list of all the parts I need to get her back to rideable condition.

Plugs & Wires(which I will buy new)
Speedometer
Headlight & Assembly
Handlebars & Grips
Mirrors
Left front turn signal
Center Stand
Left Side Front & Rear Foot Pegs
Gear Shift Lever
Stator & Cover
Exhaust
Seat or just a cover
Gas Tank
Clutch Lever & Assembly

There is probably going to be a couple of other things that I will run into as I am rebuilding, but these items I know I will need.

More great advice is always appreciated!!!

Thanks for welcoming me aboard. I am still trying to get word of a big motorcycle boneyard around here, but haven't had any luck yet. If I can't find one, I will definitely be on the lookout for the place where I can get the most for my money.:)

Hi and Welcome CSR650Rider. Have you tried using Local Google to search for "used motorcycle parts", in your area? I found a great local parts place and "guru":), doing that. Auto junk yards also get bikes in occasionally, but won't tell you on the phone. If you just want to get the bike running, and put off a authentic restoration, some of the parts you listed could even come off other bikes. Have you looked at aftermarket parts? Z1 enterprises seems to have good prices, on many of the parts these bikes can use. Anyway, just some thoughts, hope they help. Good Luck.
