polished tank

Here is a shot of the tank on my A4 after the first stage of polishing: Not too bad for a first attempt, huh? Hope the 'bird' doesn't offend anyone...Figured it was better than undoin' my fly!!!:laugh:

kick ass man i dig it.got me thinking about doing my 650 tank.what did you use to strip the paint any chemical or just wire wheel and sand paper.

I hate to say I told you so...:laugh:

Believe me when I tell you that this "polish" job doesn't look anything at all like the test piece you did for me!!! There are "ghost flames" that I tattooed into the metal with a dremel in there as well as many scratches. As far as the scarring I inflicted on the ol' girl with the dremel, well...all I can say is that if I were a better artist, it would look pretty cool!!!!! :sick: :pinch: :whistle:

Hey Creed...I used all three!!! First a chemical stripper (any old kind will do...got mine at Home Depot), then an abrasive wheel/wire wheel, finally a couple different grades of sandpaper. I then took some really fine steel wool with a bunch of mother's alum. polish and went to town on 'er.

That looks freaking killer! What are your plans to seal and protect it? Clear powder coat, clear coat paint or just keep it polished? Good job.

I saw a Duc Monster in the chrome-all-over attire and thought that my A4 would look good dressed-up like that (I actually get alot of my inspiration for mods from that silly-assed Ducati!). I haven't decided what I'm gonna do to protect the finish. It's been bare like this for a couple of months and I haven't noticed a LICK of rust ANYWHERE on the tank, so perhaps I'll leave it this way 'til I find out it really DOES need some clear coat on it! Thanks again!

Well you said you some Mothers with steel wool so maybe that will be enough to protect it for till after your first wash. What are you doing for a tail piece?
