Opinions on color , please! was created by medic24
I have recently picked up a 1977 KZ650C, original color is silver. the tank is no good, dented/rusted. I have obtained a very good tank to replace it, and it will need repainted...... SO..... what are your opinions??? Stick to the original color, or the old whatever? This bike has only 4000 miles. Engine like new, just as it should be. To start off the frame will be powder coated, etc. Let me know guys/girls, let the opinions fly!!!
Thanks
Dave

NOT that my opinion would matter or anything... :P

but as far as stock colors go the Metallic Regal Blue (the other color that KZ650 C1's came in that year) is pretty nice. Going at little darker and making it a midnight blue would be pretty sweet too.

Of course, I hear Red is a good color

;) :P

there are a few "2 part" paint sites that have chips to choose from(ppg, hok)
or you can shop your local auto parts stores for rattlecan colors that can be transferred to 2 part if need be.

bottom line is YOU ultimatly have to choose what you ride around on. make it count.

good luck,
joe

Thanks guys n' gals... I guess my question should have been more like "Would you repaint using the stock color, or use your favorite color", and NO... this one won't end up Kawi Green.... already have two other bikes in Team Neon Green!

If your side covers and tail are in great shape, you could try to match them.
4000 and original color could be worth a bit more than pink with polka dots.

It all comes down to what you like. Mine is not a stock color, but I'm tempted to paint a second body set I have stock colors.

Thanks nick, that's kind of my concern. This bike is such nice shape I plan to keep it for awhile, but I am wondering about stock verses non-stock colors devalueing the bike, IF I ever need to sell. The side panels and tail seem to be in nice shape, a "garage" accident has rendered the tank useless. Of course I have another one I am prepping as we speak! Thanks for the input.

You can watch ebay and maybe a new one will show up eventually. It's going to be tough on a 1977 650C in silver though because there weren't that many of them. A 1978 KZ650C silver tank is the same color and maybe one of them will show up (different striping on 1978 tank). If you do have to repaint, for sure don't mess up your surviving stock panels, just paint the tank to match, then every year or two all you'll need to do is repaint the tank, not the entire motorcycle. Saves a lot of work down the road.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

personalize it, use some color you haven't seen on a kaw, walk through a parking lot looking at colors, everybody does "Factory jobs", be different, its a 77 how are you going to devalue it,NADA cycle values stop in 84, a nice job will still bring all its worth
