Shafty Tank?

I got lucky, I just swapped a Honda 750/4 frame I paid $100 AUD for, for a dead straight 78 Z1R small tank with cap and fuel gauge sender.
You may be able to buy a new Z1R large tank but good luck finding a fuel cap, small tank caps are available reproduced, I've been searching for a D2 D3 large tank cap for about 12 months now, If anyone has one I'd love to buy it...!!

That's an early GPZ1100, The Eddie Lawson replica's had that tank as well, They have different front and rear mounts. I had to do a fair bit of work to make the Z1R Tank  fit the GPZ750R1 frame I used.. 

I got my fat tank for 300 euro all in, someone had done a modern tank cap conversion, probably because they couldn’t find a cap.all I have to do is figure what tank insert/model bike they used and I’m good, well bar the weird red paint all over the inside that need to be made gone.

Are you sure that started out as a OE tank?  The OE big tanks look taller but not too much wider.  You tank looks flatter and much wider than the big Z1R tank.

 So what i can see on the old internet its a 22l tank...Iv started a new thread as not to take over this one.


 

Olbeedo, the Gpz1100 tank or any of the Lawson style tanks will not fit either, the frame and channels are also different, you can see on the photos that the Gpz1100 B1 tank is thinner at the top and wider at the bottom...there is a joke there but ill refrain.

Thanks for the input fellas, I'll be on the lookout for Z1R tank.
