Removing caswell epoxy

Hi All, Ive got an kz1300, The tank was treated with caswell epoxy without attempting any rust removal
prior to coating (not me) I would like to remove the coating and use evapo rust remover. A little stumped
as to what to try. Any suggestions Thanks Greg

You might try electrolysis. I'm not sure how effective it would be against an epoxy liner, but it removes paint and rust.

I used acetone to remove a botched coating job. I have no idea what brand of coating.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI had good results with MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) aka Butanone, to remove old tank liners.

Man that sucks! Hacks shouldn't be allowed to work on bikes!

I'd try methylene chloride paint stripper and be prepared for a struggle. Something abrasive like aquarium rocks inside the tank will help scrub the surface.

I plug them, throw in a handful of stainless 1/4 nuts, and whatever super evil concentrate you want to use(MEK) or other. Cap ,then blue tape the entire Tank(glue cleans off with rubbing alcohol).Every 4 hours flip or rotate, re strap in and start back up. craigslist has baby swings( you may even meet a lonely young new mom and strike up a new friendship, or a new dad who is forced to sell his old motorcycle in back of the garage.)Hope this helps!

Unlike other liners, Caswell is epoxy. I would get one of those small dual tubes of clear epoxy and mix up a batch. After it hardens, try different stuff on it and find what breaks it down.

Just in case. Are you planning on a repaint? Because anything you use is likely to ruin the paint. but you probably already considered that.

If you are not familiar with MEK, you need to be very, very careful with it. Use it outdoors and be sure to wear gloves and goggles. Try to avoid contact or breathing the fumes.
I am not familiar with what Nessism recommended, but I would recommend serious caution here, too.

Yes A repaint was planned, The tank overall is in good condition. I'm just not comfortable with what looks like crushed cornflakes in the tank.
The bike was in storage in Washington for 30 years, Overall it is in remarkably excellent condition short of the fuel system being left with an almost
full tank of fuel that turned into shellac. The owner in an effort to restart rinsed it out with more corn fuel and then applied the epoxy coating
further gumming things up. I will take each and all replies seriously and try and remedy this. Once again Thank you All !!!!!!

Me, I used Caswell, so far so good. But I conditioned tanks before hand. I am a painter.
I would get a 5 gallon pail or basic wash lacquer thinner. ($65) Or 2 or 3 gal. cans Then fill up the gas tank with it. just let it sit for a few days. Lacquer thinner should bite into it.
