Remove varnish on exterior tank

Hello folks,
Was hoping maybe someone could guide me on ideas for removing gasoline stains off my tank exterior on my KZ1100 Luminous Navy Blue paint?

If no rust is present, POR15 Marine Clean degreaser.

Is this a repaint or the original stock paint? Can you post a pic of the stains?
I'd be real careful about applying any solvents to the paint. Whatever you use, test an inconspicuous spot if possible.

Thanks Scirocco, I'll look into that. Sorry about that, should have added details. Yes it is original paint. The bike sat in my storage for about 24 years but I left gas in it and things went bad over time and some ran out and down the sides. It had deteriorated the seal and cap. The inside finally cleaned up nicely with no pin holes or anything else bad. Having to rebuild or buy new components for the petcock and fuel sender meter stuff as well. What I had found up to now that seemed to work fair was using throttle body cleaner sprayed on a soft cloth and rubbing. I will attempt to post a pic or 2 when I learn how to do that correctly.
