A long shot but never know your luck unless you ask.

In 1977 l bought a new Z1000A1 in Victoria Australia, sold it in Perth about 1983 too buy a new Z1300A5 after l smashed it big time in Kununurra, West Australia.

Couple of years ago l started searching for my old Z1000 after l obtained the engine and frame numbers from VicRoads records, unbelievable l found the frame with wiring harness, coils (original greys) , battery box etc...on Gumtree Western Australia and bought it, l'm gathering used "survivor" parts to build and put back on the road, so far the correct engine KZTOOAE-012272 has not surfaced but think positive, it will, with retirement 5 years away be good too have on the road even with incorrect engine until the original shows up (if ever).

So l'm chasing tank, side covers and duck tail in Diamond Wine Red, small dents, inside rust, faded or small cracks not a problem as the bike is being built as a survivor with crash repairs, l have other restored Zed's but too be honest they a pain in the butt as there ridden most weekends when dry with my son and always need a good clean after to keep them looking good, too much chrome and shiny alloy, so l'll probably never do another restoration to original again, this one will also be ridden in wet weather with no worries.

It's amazing whats out there, so far l've found local speedo/tacho, Koni shocks, gauge protector handle bars ( as in last 2 pics, these so rare now days), Aust long rear guard, air box, fuse panel etc.. l've given up on original 4-2 exhaust and will use an original Z1R 4-1 l have , all in correct survivor condition, but the paint set so far has eluded me.

So thanks and fingers crossed, the shipping will be a killer but that's the price you pay for nostalgia.

Any leads appreciated. Ross.

Hope the pics work.

One day old

Only thing I want to know is what were those handlebars protecting your gauges from? The riders head? Sure looks like it to me.....

Rick it´s not for protecting the gauges!!! It could be bolting/flip upside down as a SB bar, AFAIK.!?!?

It would also be an excellent place to mount a beer holder and ashtray.

By the way, good on the op for saving a neglected KZ.
