Hi everyone. I've done a lot of searching, and I am stumped. I need some help and this is the best place to turn to. On my 1981 KZ1000K1 LTD, the fuel sensor gasket underneath the tank has started to leak. I pulled everything off and went to order a new gasket for it and I cannot find it anywhere. For my bike, the parts fiche says it should be a 6 bolt or 6 hole sensor that connects underneath the tank. My tank has a 5 bolt hole sensor. It's very likely that the previous owner put a different tank on, but I can't figure out what kind. It fits well and works well, but ordering parts for it (like the gasket) is proving difficult. I know the pictures aren't great, but does anyone recognize the model/year of the tank? It has a tab on the back for one bolt hole to the frame, and it says "103" on the face of the sensor as well. Thanks!

Looks like my tank (CSR). I know a lot of parts are interchangable twixt both models,why not tanks?
You dont need to make things so difficult with the gasket though.Its only an O-Ring. Take the old one to any car parts supplier and they should be able to sort you out. On mine, I just smeared some instant gasket over the old one and reinstalled it.No problem.

Partzilla has two different sensors listed for the LTD. one is like the CSR, the other uses a flat, oval gasket with six holes. Got no idea about a five-holer.

Are you sure there isn't a big round oring that fits in the groove inside the bolt hole circle? What does the current gasket look like? Could the p.o. have made a gasket instead of buying the right one?

It actually is just a round gasket that does not go through the 5 holes. It fits inside of the groove in this picture (see attached), maybe a couple milimeters thick. I'm just not exactly sure how it was supposed to look originally, the old one was very chewed up. I'm probably over complicating things.

Could it actually be part 92055B show on this diagram? The gasket was so flat and destroyed, I wouldn't call it an "o-ring", but maybe it is?

It is n.l.a. from Kawasaki, so a trip to the local oring store is in your future. Be sure to tell them it is for gasoline. A Viton ring would be da bomb.

There are a couple McMaster-Carr locations in MA. Newton Center and Sudbury. If you measure the groove you might be able to find one there that fits. They have them in metric and standard sizes so you may have to take some time and check their online catalog. I've bought a ton of different orings from them and you can pickup in person the the same day.

Play with the control panel on the left side to narrow down what you want. There are a few ways to search for gasoline/ethanol orings, but I think you want "fuel" specific orings. (Ethanol would refer to very high concentration ethanol so likely not exactly what you are looking for.)

They also have orings with different cross-section profiles, so if you can't find a normal donut shaped one, you might try square orings.

Viton would be good, but also Buna N should work fine. They have different hardnesses too.
With Viton, you probably want to stick with "Super resilient" or "Normal".
With Buna N, you'd probably want "medium" or "soft".
Also make sure the temperature rating isn't too low. It can get to 150 deg under the tank easily, maybe 200.

Obviously, buy several that are different, but similar in size. The actual measurements are sometimes different from teh nominal size spec. I thought Mcmaster carr had a section that showed actual size specs for the orings in addition to the nominal size, so you may want to look into that as well.
