I have the bike mechanically perfect now, starts stops and rides just the way I want. That being said now I want to dress it a bit. I have a small generic windshield on the bike but want to replace it with either a fly screen or a quarter fairing. Everything on the bile is stock, bars lights etc and I am not looking to do major mods to the ridding stance (clip on bars). I have checked on Vetter's Rooster fairing and the Vetter Bullet. Both are smallish fairing from the period. No luck. I am now considering some of the Airtech Z1R cafe quarter fairing (modified) with a round headlight cut out for my stock light, Airtech also has Thruxton fly screens. and other options. Just curious if anyone has any input?

That depends: do you have a standard 440 or an LTD?

Just be aware, with some of the airtech body parts, they are designed for racing and don't really stand up to the daily abuse on the street. Some/most of their stuff is lightweight (meaning thin) fiberglass. Thin and brittle are not a good combination for street use, as many of my friends found out.

I think you would be better off getting a small fairing designed for street bikes. They are usually much more robust ABS plastic, with acrylic shields (sometimes poly carb, stronger, but turns yellow faster).

The LTD is a cruiser; the two fairings you mentioned are for sportier machines. The quarter fairing is similar to the ones that came on the early GPzs, and the flyscreen is more of a cafe racer thing. I don't think either one would look right on an LTD, especially with the pullback handlebars.

To Lou's point, you might be better off with one of the sturdier plexiglass fairings. They're available in a lot of shapes and sizes, levels of tint/smoke, etc.

Try PowerbronzeUSA. I've bought a number of flyscreens from them for round headlights. They have a lot of choices of colors too for that personal touch .
