Gas Tank ??

Good morning,
Is it possible to use other years (makes/models) of gas tanks on the 74 kz400 ? Im wondering who has used what , and how it worked..

You can try using the diagrams at Partzilla & Kawasaki.com to figure out what fuel tanks will most likely work. I'd guess the early KZ400s from at least 74-75. maybe a tank from a later model as well. compare the shape & manner of attachment.
If you have a manual fuel valve, you just turn on the fuel valve before starting the engine & then turn it off after stopping the engine.
some guys prefer a manual fuel valve, while others prefer a vac petcock.

Vacuum petcock.
ON & RES. fuel only flows when the engine is running. engine vacuum pulls open a diaphragm to allow fuel to flow by gravity. when the engine is stopped, a spring returns the diaphragm to the closed position. ON is the normal setting for riding.

RES = reserve. use reserve when the fuel level is low. fill up the tank asap after switching to RES. The reserve will usually get you about 15-20 miles of riding before you run out of gasoline & have to push the bike.

PRI = prime. bypasses the diaphragm assy. fuel flows with engine running or engine stopped. use to prime the carburetors. or to drain the tank by installing a long tube in place of the fuel line.

As long as the rear of the tank is designed to be held down with a rubber strap.
