I am hoping y'all might be able to answer a quick paint question..
My Dad got me a new helmet for my B-day
UNFORTUNATELY, It has “Pepto Pink” tribal swooshes all over it, LOL !
My plan is to hit it with some candy Blue (transparent)
& turn the White areas Blue, & the Pink to Purple...
My question is this...Will 2000 grit wet paper give enough “tooth”
to keep new candy on factory clear? Or would 1500 be better?

Sorry, I don't know what grit paper to use, but here is a reply I received from Shoei when I asked them about painting a helmet. Ed

We at Shoei North America recommend professional painters and it is always important to get the advice of a professional painter before painting your helmet, but this is what is recommended. You do not want to remove any lower vents or rubber beading on the helmet though they should be taped off to avoid getting unwanted paint on them. The helmet should also be lightly sanded just to remove the clear coat on the outer layer of the helmet. The only paint recommended on a Shoei helmet is Polyurethane based paint. When drying the helmet do not use a high heat drying method as it may damage the protective quality of the Polystyrene liner on the inside of your helmet.

Thanx all!
I got in touch with an old HS buddy last night with body work experience, & on his advice, I used 1000 wet to scuff the clear...Ed, I did use poly urethane paint, and masked everything...and stokes verrrry funny! (FTR, He got it where he works, And I did tell him that I did not care about their somewhat limited selection, & could paint if necessary!) After it cures out fully, a little 2500 wet sanding & a wax/buff , & I am calling it done!! Thanx again!

That Candy blue coat worked well.....normally 600 would provide a better tooth
