Which Red? was created by Z1Boy
Hi Guys
I'm confused! I have a Red KZ400D, the headstock date of manufacture is August 1974. So is this the 1974 Kz400D1 in Halibut red (2k) or the Candy super red which I think is 3R?? The frame number suggests its the Candy Super Red 3R

Any thoughts?

Thanks

What does one do with a motorcycle paint color code from 1974? In the car business a color code can be used to look up paint formulas, but paint formulas don't exist for bike colors from 40+ years ago.

My best source of Kaw color matching is Ralph IE Paintworkz here on KZR

VIN tells the model year more than the build date. According to Zedder site if your frame # is below 13800 it is a Halibut 74.

The only thing the Kawaski color code will usually do is help when buying NOS body parts.

If the VIN is above 13800 it is a Supercandy 75 which probably is the same as the 75 Z1B 900 color I sell.

Thanks for that, mine is 19xxx so its the super candy red. I need a headlight bucket in that colour as mines cracked. Maybe I can get one sprayed and shipped over if I cant find a good original.

Thanks
