I have never tried to recover a seat but i found a guy on ebay who makes replacements for my bike.
Is this a fairly cut and dry type thing to do or is it best left up to the upholstery shop?

Better off getting a seat cover from a known supplier.

I agree and while fit and quality are issues what im really asking is . how hard is this to do ? given if the replacement is properly made .
it looks like I just stretch it over and secure it on the little barbs unedr the pan. maybe have to use a heat gun to warm it some?
thanks stan

If done carefully it can look great. No heat gun required. I put it on the floor and use my knee to get it down enough and don't bend them over until I like how it fits.

Some guys will say it's easy. others will say it's hard. I guess it's an individual thing. I thought it was hard, but not impossible, and got it done on the first try. I bought a nos seat cover & the material was stretchy which was helpful.

Basically, pry open the prongs to about 45o & remove the old cover. pick off the debris from the foam & sand it if necessary. the foam was split at the center & it had separated from the pan at the front, so I glued those spots using 3M super 77 adhesive spray. let the glue dry overnight.

To attach the cover, I started at the center to make sure the alignment was right & did a test fit first. then sprayed the top of the rear section of foam w super 77 & started fitting the cover over the prongs. after I got the rear fitted, next I sprayed the front section w adhesive & did that part.

The material was stretchy, so it was hard to poke the prongs thru, so I used an awl to make a hole. In short, make mark with prong, poke hole with awl, press prong thru hole, use blunt tool to push material over prong. the instructions said to spray only the top of the seat foam with adhesive (don't spray the sides). All in all I thought it came out pretty good, especially for a first try.

Don't know about the quality, but the price certainly can't be beat!

There is a company out of Thailand called Pit Replica that makes reproduction seat covers via ebay. You might want to check them out to see if they have a match for your bike.

I bought my cover from Step Collection on e-bay and it came out great. Not sure if they make a cover for your bike.

Mine is a Travelcade/SaddleSkins seat cover. Others have reported that B&H Specialties makes nice seat covers.
