Tail Piece compartment?

Tail Piece compartment? was created by GPzMOD750
Has anyone built or have a source for a compartment that fits between the rear fender and tailpiece on a '82 GPz 750? There's plenty of dead space there I figured it would be a great spot for a tool kit, etc. The PO used to shove a can of starter fluid back there since it's compression was so low, LOL.

Maybe you could use a canvas or nylon tool bag or something of that nature & get a camping dry bag to make sure nothing gets wet. ???

Thought of that but it'd be nice to able to just throw loose items in there as well without worrying about where they might end up. My old Beamers had a tray under the seat that held quite a few things, for a motorcycle.

I'm puzzled why there isn't one as standard, the 550 has one there, the 1000 too, the 1100 needs this area for the engine management brain but on the r1 it is just wasted space. If there is this part I've never seen one.

There is a tool tray behind the battery too, these often go missing.

I looked around the diagrams for the 750E --- it has a 2 storage covers but I did not see a storage case. One of the covers is probably for the owner's manual & it seems to snap into the larger cover which has a series of fasteners that hold it in place ---- not sure what the larger cover is attached to.

Here's a storage case. In one of the photos it shows a couple of oem part number labels, but those are not for the case.

I just checked the parts diagrams on Kawasaki.com and it does show a tool tray and tool kit with a pouch. Looks like its supposed to go behind the battery. I'd still like to put some sort of "glove box" in the tail piece.

I wonder if that eBay box would fit. I'd still have to rig something so it just wasn't bouncing around.

That is a very rare 550 'butty box' tool tray, took me years to find a couple of these. A lot of owners don't even know the part exists.

But it won't fit, last thing you want is it rattling around. I managed to find a zip up canvas bag exactly the right size and shape for mine.

Best would be try a 1100R 1000R even 1000J tray, but they are super rare, if anyone has one spare I'll buy it. The tail panel and bits on the r1 are very much the same as the 1100's.

The other document holder fixes under the seat and hold the owner's manual.

Finding a plastic case that's a good fit is probably going to be a tall order.
A nylon/canvas bag or tool pouch would be the simplest option --- just stuff it in there.

Its amazing what one can fit in the 750E1 tailpiece and the GPz should be similar. I have a plug wrench, adjustable wrench, screwdriver with 6 blades, Allen Keys. Pliers. spare plugs, fuel line, pack of fuses and a few other bits and pieces and all held in with the proverbial dirty rag to stop everything bouncinng around.

The space between battery and rear fender used to be occupied by an old sock holding bungy straps until I relocated my fusebox there. If you fab something up please post pics

I just recently bought a tail section assembly off ebay just to get the internal tray and owner's manual compartment. My 750E came from the previous owner with some cheesy alarm box and subsequent holes drilled through the internal tray and cover, and I wanted the bike put back to stock. Not a value oriented purchase, but restoration insanity took over.

Not sure what this has to do with the topic at hand, just felt like sharing.
