Im looking at a kz1000J 1982. I wanted a 1000cc with the look of 78-80, so i wanted to buy this 1982 and change the tail fairing, kawa emblem on the tank and add speedo and tacho covers, would the parts be interchangeable???

Nope, not a thing interchanges, the 81-82 J models are pretty nice looking, wouldnt mod one, someone else would be interested. They're like a two year only bike. Seat latches WAY differenty, tank wouldnt work with seat, gauges electronic with very different mounts, no tach cable drive on engine. If you want the 78-80 look get a 78-80

Where are you located? Maybe someone may have a lead on something?

my bikes; 80kz1000(project), 77 gl1000, 74 h2 (project)
Past; 78 kz1000, 83 kz550

I always liked the color-scheme of the 1983 KZ1000J that they sold everywhere but the US - the black & orange really popped.

My wife asked me if I still loved her - I said "Honey, I love you more than new carburetor boots ! "

That J3 is actually a fairly rare model (I like them too)...not very many units sold (imported) into Canada. Actually there were more KZ1000-R2 models manufactured than J3 models manufactured. If I were ever to acquire a North America J1 or J2 model, I might convert it to Euro body style (same as the GPz's, KZ1000-J3, KZ1100-R1, or ELR's).

Here's a pic of my J3 Canadian. I believe the black only came to Canada and a blue to Europe and Australia although Mcdroid may want to correct me on this. The bike / look is basically OEM stock with the exception of the NOS KZ1000r seat, Kerker pipe and suspension set up. I put the original spares in storage. I love the Eddie look!

Cheers.

Hi,

The Kerker pipe you have on your 83 1000J3 , would it be model 127-61004 with no centre stand retention and no oil filter access...?

Cheers

Dan
