GPz's in Sonic Gold?

Did search for Sonic Gold and most of what came back was stuff from my 82 GPz thread www.kzrider.com/forum/11-projects/592837-project-82-gpz750 :blink: So I thought I'd ask here.Anybody have any info?I found one in the start of this vid

Wow as of now 51 views and no replies.One other thing came up in the search,it's the same colour that the Specter bikes used for the gold colour,information on that colour and possible close matches would be helpful.

That was a slightly odd beast.The GT750 brings to my mind this bike

On reviewing the GT750 search it seems to be a more utilitarian version of the KZ/GPz750,lots of pics show the tail replaced with an ugly rack

The Kawasaki GT series was not marketed in North America and was a drive shaft model. I have read accounts of folks using the GT750 as a courier vehicle and commonly clocking several hundred thousand miles.

was seeking for a Z750GP in Sonic Gold, too, and came across your thread here.
Was offered a Sonic coloured machine in Germany recently but was not sure it has even been sold in that colour anywhere as in Germany it was only offered in fire cracker red.

In fact, I found out that the machine I was offer originally came from Italy!

HOWEVER, I never found a good picture of one painted in Gold. If you have such bike I would appreciate sharing a pic, pls.

on page two there are some GT 750 in SOnic Gold which was their standard colour in the first production year in 1982, the same year the Z750GP came out.

the GT is the shaft drive model never sold in the US but was popular in Europe, in particualr in the UK

I know 550 and 750 Gpz were available in sonic gold. it doesn't seem to have been a popular colour.

IIRC My GPz70R1 dealer's brochure shows sonic gold as a colour choice, as well as the customary firecracker red.

I could be wrong, but don't believe the bike was offered in any color other than red in the US.

I don't think that ad was for the US version of the bike even though the bike shown appears to be a US version. Notice the side cover badges on the bike show "GPz750". That is what the bike was called in the US. However, notice throughout the text the bike is referred to as a "Z750GP". I have never seen or heard of that nomenclature being used in the US. Maybe the ad was for a UK version of the bike; I think they may have used the term "Z750GP".

Also, notice in the US version on the parts diagrams (see link below) that there are only part numbers for a red fuel tank and body parts. Ed

This topic has come up several times and I've pieced the following together for 1982 models

GPz550 Sonic Gold available in Canada
GPz750 Sonic Gold available in Canada, Italy
GPz1100 Sonic Gold available in the UK, Australia

And I'm sure there are additional countries the gold version was sold...however, I have never seen a decent photo essay of either the 1982 GPz750 or 1100 Sonic Gold models.

Good find! That part is located in Edmonton, Canada, so that matches up with the info Mcdroid posted. Ed
