Gas tank compatability? was created by Greasedmonkey
Ive got a 1980 KZ650 and it needs a new tank. Ive looked around and have found some KZ tanks but none from my year. I would like to know what tanks will fit on it? Can I get one from an older bike or a bigger version? 750 or so and such?

I think the Ltd has the same type of "coffin" tank as the 78-79 650D SR models.
The 750-4 tanks attach differently at the rear... most (all?) of them have a bolt.
Yours just fits into a damper.

What you can do is compare the tanks & frames of various models at Kawasaki.com or Partzilla, but I'd guess the best fit would be the ones I mentioned above. If there is a direct bolt-on from another model, it'll probably be from the 70s or maybe an 80 model (750-Twin or 1000)... probably nothing after 1980.

Thanks. From what I can tell by feel and what I can see, is that is does just sit in a rubber grommet thing. I cant find a bolt at all.

Mine is an 83' kz650 CSR edition. my tank had one bolt on the back, right against the air filter cap. the front of the tank slides over 2 rubber boots/grommets. My tank is fine, but I have often wondered about a larger capacity.

1982 kz 650 CSR mostly stock.
