Z1 side covers on 78 LTD

Anyone try this swap? I like the older covers better but don't want to lay out the cash if its going to take a lot of fabrication to work.

The z1 rear motor mounts are where the front sidecover tabs go. You'll also at least need pods or a z1 airbox.

Not sure if the other two tabs are exactly where they need to be though

the upper pin location is the same but the bottom is needed ........ :blink: I welded plates to the frame for the bottom Z1r mount on my 76 kz 900

The top mounts are off just a little bit also.

I have a set of Z1 covers and several early KZ1000's...it appears unanimous...it is do-able with fabrication skills, but you will have to fab up two of the three peg-mounts...seems like a lot of effort.

Thanks for all the feedback! I will hold off on this for now. Right now I have one repaired stock cover, and a bolt on repro. I'll just run those for now, and worry about getting buying new covers when I am ready to modify the frame. It's a lot easier to modify than it is to try and put it back to stock!

I bought an aluminum swingarm for my bike when I found a crack in the stock arm next to the pivot. When I found out I"ll have to cut off the passenger peg mount part of the frame (which also provides mounting for the brake pedal and the Kerker). So the old one is now welded up and hope to make it last till I have any future modifications fully planned out.

You can just trim a little off the inside of the tubes where they hit the swingarm.
