Use of the stock seat pan and fiberglass over it? was created by Medicontheloose
I've done a great deal of searching, yet can't seem to find any posts/videos etc.

Has anyone done this? I'm planning the build of my seat for my 80 KZ750. I was thinking of using most the front portion of the seat pan with the seat lock, hinge points, and the stock rubber supports, and placing fiber glass over it to achieve my seat profile/cowl.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance.

My son did this on his 550 LTD pan. Cut the rear section off of it after installing a rear tail section from a KZ650. Reshaped the original foam, adding heavy carpet padding for support in some areas. Turned out well. Now for upholstering.

I'm currently in the same position as I removed the seat cover along with the foam...

I'm trying to think up a style using the stock "seat pan" . I checked out some videos online about fiber glassing a tail section
and creating a seat out of an old leather jacket.

I too was hoping someone else had done this...not found anything yet...

I think I will have venture down this road alone...

Now that a few more things on the list have been finished, I'll be starting on the fiberglass work next week. Thanks for the input. Progress pics to follow.

I have the same bike, and seat/pan, etc. I've cut down the foam to half the thickness (and repainted the pan after getting a bunch of rust off it) to make it more sleek looking. I've got a new skin en route off eBay, and will see how it looks with the recontoured foam. I want the same look as your one pic with the 750 style tail on it, but with an actual cushion, but if it still ends up looking dorky like the original LTD seat, I may follow your lead and try and graft on plastic to the tail of it.

I started mine yesterday. As soon as I get a little more progress pics done, I'll post them up.

Okay. Got a mold made from the back half of my tank. As soon as it warms up a bit more, I'll lay the glass cloth inside of it to get a nice smooth plug.

Did a little massaging of the pan to get the right line along the frame. Next step is laying on the glass cloth to the pan to strengthen it up a bit. It's a bit flimsy after I cleaned all the rust off.

As I get more done I'll post up more pics.

I want to do the same thing with my tank...I was going to buy a rusted out tank and just cut the back half off I wanted to use but I have no welding skills. Maybe this is the route I'll go once I see how it's finished!
