Z1 Aftermarket pre-painted tank & panels

Well when you figure how hard it is to even find decent unmolested z1 side covers and tail piece that have survived the 70s without 1/2" of metal flake and 3" lettering ,then try and get a decent z1 tank that isnt full of rust/syrup inside .
But thats only half the battle,then you have to find somebody who can actually do an origional paint job which could set you back close to $1000.00 just for a perfect paint job.
When you look at all how these bikes were put together from the factory,quality isnt the first word that generally comes to mind in my book!
Crude/close enough construction describes it better for me,Check out the welding on a z1 frame up close sometime! :sick: :woohoo:

Overall the value for money is very good. New plastic, new tank, and a quality paint job.

I hope your set arrives in good condition. I doubt it will ship much before mid December - and with the holiday season, it may not arrive until after Christmas. We have bodywork waiting to be painted and that's when we expect it to be ready - and we ordered those sets a week ago...

My computer's been down for a few days. Finally back up and running.

I called Reproduction Decals to inquire about issues if I'm not happy when it arrives. She said there were some issues with some of the tanks about a year ago, but they never got any of those. They have sold about 10 body kits in the last year with no issues. She assured me that if I was not satisfied, they would rectify the situation.

I can so no more until they arrive.

As to cost, I think it is a bargain. I just had a tank and body for my 77 kz1000 painted at my long time body shop. It cost me $1000. Granted there was some repair work to be done, but, OUCH!! So, the repro Z1 kit will probably be under $1500 delivered to my door.

The original z1 tank I have needs a fair amount of work as well. I stripped it with paint stripper to see how much bondo was there. There are 4 quarter sized dings. It still needs to be blasted, although I've cleaned out the old Cream liner with paint stripper. Then I did a muriatic acid wash and sealed that with phosphoric acid. The inside now looks like new. So now, I will have a spare tank that I can have painted if necessary, or I can sell it to recoup some costs.

quality paint is going throught the roof there sre still allot of guys trying om make a name for them d=selves a friend if mine just paid 800 yom frony and rear fender some of the newer guys on the scenes csant afford some of the quakity paint and be at a reasonable budget thanks eos

If we could Cuss That is a Flippen BadAzz Beautful flippin bike man awesome I re read my incoherent previous post (pain meds were working lol) what I was trying to say order the over seas set if your gonna go with a factory scheme buy it that way because the EPA has the cost of paint crazy here in the states. custom jobs are actually less money because you use the paint you have you when your a smaller shop and noth that much more time

So it took quite a while to get my Z1 body kit from Japan. Got it a couple of weeks ago. It is the same kit you can get from Z1E. I got mine through Reproduction Decals.

It is FANTASTIC!! Gorgeous colour. Not a flaw. Only had to remove the paint for the cap and latch, and trim the document tray. Still gobsmacked over the colour.

I crashed my diamond red 77 kz1000 last August. Has all of the body parts painted at my local auto body shop. They matched the paint with a Mazda minivan paint, and off the shelf stripes. Turned out fantastic. They had to do some body work. Cost me $1200, actually not bad for here in Vancouver.

So to get a whole new repro Z1 body kit for $1200 + shipping is a great deal. The paint quality is superb. As long as the quality of the tank itself is good over the long term, I'm a very happy camper.
