So......I'm looking for something to do, and took a glance at my old Kwaka 1000 sitting in the car port.

Been trying to fix a dud cylinder recently, but still goes like a rocket, so i decided to pull some crappy looking bits off and give 'em a clean.

It's amazing what some "wet & dry", a bench grinder and some buffing compund can do in an afternoon. These looked RUBBISH before and yes, I know a couple of bolts are missing.

Thanks guys,

I sanded it all down first - the metal was pretty grungy in parts.

The trick though is the course buffing wheel which really gets out all the junk . Then I worked down to a softer buffing pad and lighter polishing compound - all on the bench grinder.

Once that was done it looked pretty shiny, but then I hit it with a tube of Solvol Autosol Aluminium polish and did it by hand. It's great stuff, and when I bought it I wasn't sure whether to get the general metal polish or the specific Aluminium one.....I'm glad i got the aluminium one - whatever is in it is great.

It looks as good in real life as it does in the pics.

So good to see that people are starting to polish their parts up and take bling credit. The stator cover looks excellent. You could get that to look like chrome. Take more time on the buffer with the black compound till it looks really shiny or even wet sand it to 1200 even more before you polish. I wish I knew what grit the black stuff is at about.
Then tripoly, then white and there are two levels of that and finally the stuff by hand. To keep that shine put a little wax compound to preserve it. I think some of the aluminum polish may have a bit of that in there.
I spent about 20 hours or better getting the rear brake caliper smooth and shiny! The imperfections are what take the longest to do and you have to go throught the grit in small increments before it hits the buffer or you can see all the fine little scratches etc. :)
