Seat Building

Hi everyone. I'm about to make a nice, sleek seat for 1982 KZ750-4 nd am looking for so help. I have a metal seatpan made already d am wondering how exactly to atatch the coverg to the underside. Spray adhesive works wonders on the foam ..... but now I'm at a loss.


I'm thinking about a cafe-syle seat w. rear round cowling (you know what I mean). Are these typically made of fibrelass? Im going to make a posive mold from foam. what can I use for the final negative mold that won't bond to the fiberglass?

Finally, does anyone have a clutch basket I could get from them? The one with 5 tapped holes for the spring bolts. Thanks so much!

I used pop rivits on one that I recovered, and it worked quite well. You have to drill the holes, but that is pretty easy.
Would like to see some pic if you have em.
I currently planing a new seat for my 650 and can always use ideas.

You can probably tell thats a Honda in my display pic. I'll get some pictures soon.

I used uphosters spray adhesive to stretch the vinyl over the seat. It was pretty tight and I was suprised that it stuck to the meal seat pan. You have to spray both parts to be glued and let them set up for a minute though before sticking them together.

Once it was stuck I went back over it and drilled some holes and used small screws to make sure the leather stayed where it was suppose to.

Doing it this way helps because you want the seat fabric to be fairly tight, but it's hard to hold it where you want it, then drill holes and rivet, without losing your place or having the fabric go slack.

When I did mine, I used the pointy hook-like things that were already on the Kawasaki seat pan. Unfortunately, to get it real tight (which I don't think I did all that well) you end up poking a lot of holes into the seat cover as you adjust it. However, I took the LTD seat down to a slight step by building up the front and reducing the back.
